Paonta Sahib Gurdwara, is in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. When he was barely 16 years old, Guru Gobind Singh ji left Anandpur Sahib and on receiving an invitation from the local raja, lived at this beautiful spot for over four years. It was at this historic gurdwara that the Guru penned his Dasam Granth.
The origin of the name Paonta Sahib is attributed to the Guru. There are several legends associated with it. It is said that with the setting of his foot on the soil of this place and his subsequent stay here, the place was named as Paon-tika (foot-rest), later to be known as Paonta Sahib.
It was near the Paonta Sahib that the Guru battled and won against the combined forces of the hill rajas.
The Gurdwara houses the Sri Talab Asthan where the Guru disbursed salaries, and the Sri Dastar Asthan, where he judged the turban-tying competitions. There is also the Kavi Durbar, which is the venue of the poetic symposia. A memorial dedicated to Kalpi Rishi, and a museum showcasing the pens of the Guru and the weapons of those times, are located within the precincts of the gurdwara.
