Around Amritsar

In 1590, the fift guru, Guru Arjan Dev ji, during his travels in the area between the Ravi and the Beas reached a village called Khara-Plasor. The idyllic beauty of the village studded with natural ponds captivated Guru Sahib. Guru ji decided to construct a holy tank here by converting a natural depression into a sarovar.

Guru Arjan Dev ji had a special interest in building sarovars since his followers were largely farmers and the resion was prone to severe droughts. In fact, Guru ji had water tanks built at Tarn Taran, Thatte Khera and, of course, at Amritsar.
